With wineries, gourmet food trails, antique stores and established arts calendars, the North East provides a great variety of things to do and see.
History is very much alive in this region. National Trust buildings are dotted throughout each shire, many housing art galleries, antique shops, museums and research centres. Live theatre is thriving with a mix of community and professional theatre companies.
The region has a nationally recognised art gallery in Benalla. Set among stunning rose gardens, the gallery hosts traditional and contemporary mixed media exhibitions. It is also home to a popular café with indoor and outdoor dining on the banks of the scenic Broken River.
Each year the region hosts events that attract locals and visitors alike including the highly regarded Wangaratta International Festival of Jazz.
