"My business has been designed to fit around my family. You need to be available during secondary school years for the driving to and from and to be around to listen and support during these challenging teenage years."

Binky and Gary Henderson discovered the advantages of flexible work arrangements when their eldest daughter was approaching secondary school age.

"I have always had an affi nity with the country and when we elected to move out of Melbourne in 2004, we chose Ballarat largely after examining the schools," explained Binky.

They selected Ballarat Grammar with its "grounded emphasis on community - not just academic excellence, but a real focus on the individual."

The family enjoys their new lifestyle and plans to eventually move to a more rural location. But for now Binky believes Ballarat is "a good place to bring teenagers up."

Binky Inc CPR and First Aid Training was established in 2003 to address the need for ‘Train the Trainer’ and cost-effective training programs in the field. Binky has over 25 years experience as a Maternal Child Health (MCH) nurse and an extensive background in the development and delivery of fi rst aid and resuscitation training programs to MCH nurses, parents, carers and health workers and is active in regulating fi rst aid resuscitation practice.

Although Binky largely trains health professionals, her classes can cover a wide range of people.

"I’m even hoping to offer a course to high schools based on basic CPR and fi rst aid in relation to substance abuse," she said.

She mostly travels to client companies or institutions and drives to Melbourne about once a fortnight to teach and catch up with old friends.
